UChicago Research Bangladesh (URB) is an international non-profit research organization affiliated with The University of Chicago, USA. URB also registered with NGO Affairs Bureau Bangladesh as an International NGO. URB conducts research, training and community service activities for the improvement of human health in Bangladesh and beyond. URB works closely with the scientists, health professionals and policy makers in Bangladesh, USA and other countries.

The mission of URB is to identify the major determinants for common diseases and health outcomes among Bangladeshi populations. Specifically research is primarily focused on reducing environmental risk factors causing significant public health problems that the people of Bangladesh faces and translate knowledge into policy and practice.

URB invites application from the suitable female candidates for the position of Research Medical Officer for its field office located at Araihazar Upazila, Narayangonj. Position particulars are as follows:

Salary & benefits : Monthly consolidated gross Tk. 45,000 in the probationary period (3 months). Tk. 50,000 after confirmation.

In addition, 10% contributory provident fund, gratuity, two festival bonus (equivalent to 50% of one month salary each), group life and medical insurance, and other admissible benefits as per URB policy.
Education : At least Medical Graduate from the recognized Medical College with a minimum of three years relevant experience.

Job Description:

Job title : Research Medical Officer( Female), Based at Araihazar

Functional Line : Chief Field Officer, UChicago Research Bangladesh.

Operational Line : Clinical & Research Coordinator, UChicago Research Bangladesh

Job purpose: : Responsible for management of research related clinical work of Research Clinic, which includes out and in-patients management, pregnancy outcome measurement & data collection, perform sonology, planning & implementation of Maternity Unit services and maintain coordination with field research team and other respective units of URB.

Key accountabilities:

Strategy & Planning

  • Lead the Woman and Maternal Care activities to achieve organizational goal & objectives through coordination, implementation and evaluation,
  • Play role model in terms of ethical consideration in patient management specially in managing Gynae & Obstetric (ANC, PNC, Conduction of delivery, identification of complication & timely referral, Apgar Score & Partograph),
  • Perform sonology related research work ( IMT measurement) and diagnostic sonology.
  • Supervision and monitoring Maternal Care Services through feedback, review treatment guideline, arrange on job training to improve the quality of care,
  • As a lead member of the team she should be keen to establish patient’s friendly environment.

Implementation & Deployment

  • Establish functional coordination among the different components of the Clinical Activities,
  • Provide Clinical support to different research activities, if needed,
  • Establish operational coordination with Clinic Incharge and Lab Manager to improve the quality of work in relation to Maternal Care,
  • Reporting and regular sharing on different Woman and Maternal Care health issues in the team,
  • Maintain quality and consistency of Woman and Maternal Care through provision standard treatment guideline,
  • Ensure client satisfaction through implementation of different activities.

Operational Management

  • Ensure the technical standards and best practices are maintained across the Woman and Maternal Care.
  • Share knowledge, mentor, and educate the team staff and patients.
  • Establish standards of performance appraisal for staff (through performance review).

Person Specification:


A registered medical graduate with skill on Gynae & Obstetric case management and certificate course in USG.

Essential Requirements:

  • Ability to perform and conduct normal delivery, identification of complication, emergency management & referral on time,
  • At least 3 years experience in managing gynae and obstetric cases,
  • At least 2 years experience to perform USG, Diploma in sonology will be regarded as added advantages
  • Familiar with ICD-10 coding
  • Computer skills on MS Word, Excel, Email and Internet.


  • Knowledge of management of common diseases and experience of practical working in patient management specially in terms of Gynae & Obstetric case management.
  • Good command on clinical understanding and management of Emergency Obstetric Care, Apgar Score & Partograph.


  • Excellent interpersonal communication skill with co- worker; good command in English and Bangla writing and verbal communication skills are essential
  • Ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Exceptionally self-motivated and directed.
  • Keen attention to problem-solving abilities, exceptional service orientation.
  • Ability to motivate in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.


The person should have the ability to work in semi urban and rural area.

Research activities:

The person should have the interest to research work related to woman health and maternal & neo-natal care.
