UChicago Research Bangladesh (URB) is an international non-profit research organization affiliated with The University of Chicago, USA. URB conducts research, training and community service activities for the improvement of human health in Bangladesh and beyond. URB also registered with NGO Affairs Bureau Bangladesh as an International NGO. URB works closely with scientists, health professionals and policy makers in Bangladesh, USA and other countries.

The mission of URB is to improve equity in health, reduce risk and determine determinants for health and its appropriate interventions. Research is primarily focused on reducing environmental risk factors causing significant public health problems that the people of Bangladesh faces and translate knowledge into policy and practice.

URB invites application from the suitable candidates for the position of Senior Software Developer for its Bangladesh Country Office in Dhaka. Position particulars are as follows:

Compensation : Monthly consolidated gross Tk. 55,000 – 70,000/-
Plus 10% contributory provident fund, gratuity, two festival bonus (equivalent to 50% of one month salary each), group life and medical insurance, and other admissible benefits as per URB policy.
Education : Master Degree in Computer Science/Engineering from any recognized University with at least 2 years working experience in the relevant field. OR
Bachelor degree in Computer Science/Engineering with at least 5 years practical working experience in the required areas.
Job Summary

URB is seeking a well-qualified and experienced Senior Software Developer (SSD) for its Bangladesh Country Operations. The primary responsibility of the position would be to participate in the creation of new products and enhancements to existing products from concept to launch as part of a cross-functional project team under the guidance of Chief Technical Officer. The SSD will be responsible to the team to design, implement, and test solutions that result in compelling, easy to use products. H/she will also be responsible for a demanding and rewarding variety of duties related to the development, enhancement and delivery of required products.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Will have to maintain the administrative applications, developed in different technologies (MS .Net Core with MS SQL Server on the backend, JavaScript & Angular, R, Python etc.).
  • Work with at other programmers, data analysts and data scientists. Documentation of the code generated by the programmer is expected to be clear, structured and efficient.
  • Familiarity with source code control systems (Git, SVN etc.) is needed as also a strong level of comfort with model view based design patterns (MVC, MVP or MVVM).
  • Learn, design and build applications based on biomedical data exchange standards such as HL7, FHIR and OMOP
  • Needs to be comfortable designing and developing applications following model view design patterns.
  • Develop high-quality software design and architecture following the agile software development lifecycle.
  • Identify, prioritize and execute tasks in the agile software development life cycle.
  • Develop tools and applications by producing clean, efficient code.
  • Automate tasks through appropriate tools and scripting.

  • Perform validation and verification testing.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to fix and improve products.
  • Document development phases and monitor systems.
  • Ensure software is up-to-date with latest technologies.
Essential Requirements:
  • Minimum of five years combined experience in designing and developing web applications using Microsoft.Net Core Framework, Angular JS or similar framework.
  • Strong knowledge of Object Oriented Programming and Services Architecture Concepts.
  • Extensive relational database design experience with complex SQL and data modeling.
  • Deep level of comfort with design patterns and software architecture.
  • Good web design and layout concepts with focus on cross browser compatibility.
  • SQL Server, ASP.NET Core – MVC, Blazor, and C-sharp.
  • Experience mentoring and training junior developers.
  • Hands on experience with basic DevOps based out of GitHub, Bitbucket or equivalent.
  • Experience in automated testing frameworks.
  • Experience with RAD tools like Telerik, web service and UML, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, AngularJS, JQuery will be added as an extra qualification.
  • Ability to work with the development team of The University of Chicago, USA with a different time zone.
  • Familiarity with various operating systems (Linux, Mac OS, Windows).
  • Ability to work independently.
